Ireland & Scotland

July 2 -9, 2011

Come and join us for our 8 day 7 night tour of Ireland & Scotland.

Ireland is regarded as one of the Celtic nations of Europe, which also includes Scotland, Wales and Brittany. The unique combination of Ireland's cultural influences is visible most readily in the intricate designs termed Irish interlace or Celtic knotwork. These can be seen in the ornamentation of medieval religious and secular works. The style is still popular today in jewelry and graphic art, as is the distinctive style of traditional Irish music and dance, and has become indicative of modern "Celtic" culture in general.

Scotland's colourful and compelling history is peppered with tragic yet romantic heroes, notable fighters, innovators and politicians. From earliest times the influences of Ireland, Scandinavia and continental Europe have been as important, particularly in aspects of Scotland's creative and cultural development. The result has been a sophistication and ambition few associate with the land of warring clans and burning castles...

The first 5 nights will be spent in Ireland where you will visit Bunratty Castle & Folk Park, Kilkenny Castle, enjoy a cookery demonstration at the Ballymaloe Cookery School in a large family farmhouse just East of Cork City.

Step aboard a jaunting cart in Killarney National Park and witness breathtaking scenery. You will be pampered with a SPA treatment at the 5* Mount Wolseley Hotel in Carlow.

Not to be missed is the panoramic tour in Dublin’s fair city which offers a variety of striking monuments. This panoramic tour will end in Phoenix Park, the largest public park in Europe.

Visit Helen Dillon’s garden and enjoy tea and biscuits at her house. The garden is controlled throughout by a strong sense of design and color and houses a plant collection to rival that of a small botanic garden.

Coddle, an Irish specialty, (sausage, bacon and potato stew), will be prepared for you at a local pub.

Our tour in Dublin ends with a visit to The Guinness Brewery, Europe’s largest stout producing brewery and home to the Guinness Storehouse. A visit to the 7th floor gravity bar will enable you to sample first-hand the elixir of life – a pint of Guinness.

On your way to Belfast, at the Howth Castle, located on the north side of Dublin Bay, you will reconnect with food in a beautifully restored Georgian kitchen.

Travelling north to Belfast you will stop to admire the picturesque maritime village of Malahide. Departure from Belfast to Scotland via ferry.

Glasgow is Scotland’s biggest city, overflowing with style and culture. Its blend of internationally acclaimed museums and galleries, stunning architecture, vibrant nightlife, fabulous shopping and superlative wining and dining prove irresistible.

We end our tour of Scotland with the city of Edinburgh. With streets steeped in history and a thriving cultural scene, the City of Edinburgh offers the perfect balance between all things traditional and contemporary. Edinburgh Castle is Scotland's number one attraction and definitely worth a visit. As well as the obvious visits to see Scotland's Crown Jewels and the Stone of Destiny. the best view of Edinburgh is from the castle ramparts as nothing in the city can be higher.
