Sannio, Amalfi & Rome
September 2010

Discover an area of southern Italy, the Sannio, that will remain in your heart forever. Few travelers are aware of the beauty, history, culture and culinary wealth hidden within the folds of the Apennine mountains between Rome and Naples.
The Sannio is as much a historical definition as a geographical one and defines the territory that, long before Rome, was the home of a proud tribe called the Samnites.
Directly inland from the wonders of Mt. Vesuvius, Pompeii, Capri and the Amalfi coast, this region offers a kind of genuine experience that is fast disappearing along the better known and well worn tourist tracks of Italy. We take you off the beaten path to visit an unexploited Italy.

In the warm and friendly company of Barbara and Federico, specialists in the Sannio region, you can learn the secrets of Italian regional cooking, visit wine and olive oil estates, taste freshly made honey, visit ceramic and embroidery artisans, take a walking trek along the ‘tratturi’ (ancient mountain cattle tracks), or relax at natural volcanic spas.
We begin and end our tour in Rome. Our 3-day stay in the Sannio region will include all of the delights the area has to offer. On leaving the Sannio we arrive in Sorrento and the Amalfi coast renowned for its rugged terrain, scenic beauty, picturesque towns and diversity. The Amalfi Coast is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. On our way back to Rome, we will stop at two of the world’s most impressive archeological sites: Pompeii and Herculaneum. The last two nights are in Rome, “the Eternal City”.
